Farmers' Community Market at Brookside ~ SATURDAYS ~ 8am-1pm

Thank you for being friends of the market this year. We are having a wonderful season because of YOU!! Some of our vendors haven’t checked in this week, which doesn’t mean they won’t be there. It probably means that harvesting is taking more and more time, and the bounty will be plentiful at Saturday’s market!

Here are some things you can definitely look forward to:

Bear Creek Farms

Another wet week - we are on the "inch a day program" which is lovely when it cools things off, but, oh my, it makes growing tomatoes tough. I'm quite sure we now every tomato disease known to man, despite our weekly organic spray program. The weeds are taller than I am since we can't get any machinery into the fields, and we've all developed the cutest little webbed toes from wading throught the water - next year we are planning on growing rice!

Despite it all we'll have plenty of summer heirloom tomatoes, lovely bell peppers, fresh fragrent basil, crisp cool cabbage, okra (everyone should have at least one big platter of fried okra every summer), just dug yellow and purple potatoes, shiny dark purple eggplant, and more.

As always, we appreciate so much those of you that support the Brookside Market and the farmers who work so hard to produce the lovely produce you see there every week. It's been a tough summer for all of them. Thank You!

Bread of Life - Hello Brookside Friends,
Again we have had another hot week in the Bakery but I am hoping the rains will cool things a little by Friday.

Bryce and Lili have had a good time at Brookside Market and it seems to be the high light of there trips out here. Thank you for making them feel welcomed.

Our usual breads an,snacks and cookies will be available this week. The chocolate chip espresso cookies were a hit and will be back on Saturday.

Our burritos will have potatoes, kale, onion and squash in them this week. The Benidict Builders sausage will be in the Sausage burritos. Come early before we sell out. Quiches, coffee and scones will also make for a good market breakfast.

See you on Saturday,
Luke, Chris, Gabe,Bryce and Lili

Some would say this is the most wonderful time of the year with tomatoes and green beans and eggplant and the markets all over the country in full swing. Others would say, it’s too darn hot. I think they are both right.
The tomatoes are ripening like Christmas tree ornaments all over the field. We can barely keep up and can barely push our way past the stacks ready for you at market this weekend…but we’ll manage because oh too quickly the stacks will be only a memory…
for now, this week, we’ll bring another half ton or so in many colors, sizes and shapes for you to choose from
And
Green beans, tri-color beans, soybeans, eggplant, sweet peppers, hot peppers, red peppers, green peppers, purple peppers, orange peppers and yellow peppers.
Some leeks, onions, scallions, shallots.
Beets and carrots.
Potatoes of many sizes, colors and shapes.
Summer squash in many sizes, colors and shapes.
Cucumbers in many sizes, colors and shapes (unfortunately).
Tomatillos.
Microgreens, purslane, salad mix, Funky Fresh, arugula (don’t know how), Malabar spinach, mustard greens, kale and Swiss chard.
Basil.
Lots of herbs.
And recipes for everything!
Sweat you there/oops, I mean SEE you there!

Wells Family Farms – Kim will be there with all of her usual yummy and interesting stuff.

And don't forget to...
