Dinosaur, Curly and Russian, OH MY!  It's our first annual Kale Festival!

We are delighted to have Chef Renee Kelly of Caenen Castle coordinating our KILLER KALE COOKOFF!  Brian Aaron, noted for his stellar menu at Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen will also be a guest chef, and there will be dishes such as Kale Succotash, Kale with shell pasta and sausage, Kale Salad with Raisins and parmesean.  WE SAY YUMMMM!

Chef Kelly is a gifted chef and writer.  She is friends with the famous Escoffier family, has cooked for dignitaries around the world and has a local, organic approach to food.

Ben Neis with Chipotle will also be there rocking out some salsa & burritos.  Chipotle is a big supporter of Cultivate Kansas City formerly KCCUA and the Urban Farms and Gardens Tour coming up June 25th & 26th (see info below).

Our own Evangeline and Alicia will be playing in Children's Corner, making Kale Chips (yum!) and origami.  There is sure to be great fun and creative energy going on there from 9 am to noon!  Enjoy your weekend break, treasured Children's Corner volunteer – Meri!
Mark McGonigle will be jamming out folk rock tunes with his bro from out of town and his son Dylan.  We are excited to have them back at the market.

Green Dirt Farm
Our pastures are lush and green thanks to plenty of spring sunshine and rain. As a result, our ewes (the "ladies") are feeding on rich grasses, which in turn results in LOTS of milk! Our cheese makers are busy making both aged and fresh sheep's milk cheeses. When you stop by to pick up your favorites on Saturday, remember to have us stamp your Friend of the Farm card. Ten $10 market purchases entitles you to $10 of free cheese

From Gibbs Road Community Farm and Cultivate Kansas City (formally KC Center for Urban Agriculture)

Well, the herbs like the weather.
We'll bring lots of them to market this Saturday.
We hope to also bring sugar snap peas, green beans, summer squash, cucumbers, cabbage, broccoli, kale, collard greens, kohlrabi greens, Swiss chard, fennel, scallions, mini onions, garlic scapes, mustard bunches (with a brand new recipe), salad mix (with extra special secret ingredients), lettuce mix, microgreens, arugula, kohlrabi, scarlet turnips, Hakurei turnips, beets, carrots, radishes (maybe even some nice black ones for grilling) and back by popular demand some warm weather transplants for those of you looking to grow your own.  It's never too late.
We'll be looking for you this Saturday!

My Grandmother made candy her entire working life. I am thrilled to carry on her legacy. This week Oishii Studio Sweets has a special summer treat with Peach-Ginger Caramels as well as Sea Salt Caramels and Rosemary Caramels.  We also have Scottish Shortbread, Lemon Shortbread and Rosemary-Lemon Shortbread.  Oishii means delicious and this week we have delicious "Grand Marnier" Chocolate-Orange Brownies and Pistachio-Lime Cookies.  Like  us on Facebook to be the first to know of new Oishii happenings.
Thanks for all your support.

KALE, KALE, KALE!  I also have zucchini, chard, broccoli, fennel, kohlrabi, red spring onions, scallions, carrots and gorgeous, crunchy-summer crisp lettuce.  Try some elderberry blossoms for fritters!

What better way to enjoy the kale festival on Saturday than to feast on a bag of crispy dehydrated kale chips. Blue-Curled Scotch Kale
is harvested fresh from the garden, washed squeaky clean, then seasoned and loaded into the dehydrator. Low temperature (105 F) dehydration is the secret to a healthy and delicious kale chip.

Mix and Match these items $3 each or any 2/$5

• Three types of fresh kale (bunched): Dinosaur Kale, Russian Red Kale, and Blue-Curled Scotch.
• Crispy Kale Chips
• Evergreen Spring Onion
• Italian Flat Leaf Parsley
• Edible Flower

Visit to learn more about the incubator farm. Look for weekly updates where I will post photography as well as provide entertainment through sharing the triumphs and defeat of trying to grow solo on an inappropriately-scaled garden.

See you at market,

Bread of Life
Hello market friends!
As I write this, we are still awaiting the birth of Luke and Mandi's little
Mercy. It looks like she is going to take after her dad and be a stubborn one!

Bethany and I have been experimenting with gluten free recipes this week. We are
quite happy with the snickerdoodle cookies and lemon poppy seed cake! We will
send them to market this weekend. Let us know what you think of them!

We will also have the breads, burritos, quiche, goodies, and coffee. See you

Luke, Chris, Kathy, and Amanda

Golden Crown Coffee
It's time for grilling, and Golden Crown Coffee is ready to help you bring a new flavor to the table. Stop by and try our Coffee BBQ Sauce and our Coffee Spice rub. And, as always, coffee roasted the night before.
