"Propelled by the growing awareness of the global climate crisis and interest in choosing more sustainable life styles, the 8th Annual Earth Fair promises to be the best yet", says Margaret Thomas, chairperson, of the Prairie Village Environmental Committee. There will be more than 50 exhibitors who will cover every facet of sustainable choices. Attendees will be able to use an interactive computer program to measure how their lifestyles impact our environment and how to reduce that impact.
Another highlight will be "LESS TRASHIN' MORE FASH'N," a fashion show sponsored by the Shawnee Mission East Environmental Club featuring recycled clothing for school wear that students purchased from area thrift stores. There will also be presentations on global climate change, home insulation, geothermal energy systems and native perennials as well as performance by "Green Elvis," and choral groups from Belinder and Briarwood Schools. Hybrid and electric cars, live animals and exotic birds will be on display. There will be an organic lunch and fair trade products for sale.
The Earth Fair is sponsored by the Prairie Village Environmental Committee and Shawnee Mission East Environmental Club.

2007 was a landmark year in the area of climate change in the Midwest. In November 2007, the Midwest Governor’s Association signed the Energy Security and Climate Stewardship Platform for the Midwest. In addition, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Manitoba signed the Midwest Greenhouse Gas Accord. The National Farm Bureau and the National Farmer’s Union have both launched carbon programs. In addition, the Lieberman-Warner bill contains language specific to agriculture.
