Wanted to let folks know that a veggie grower in KS lost a high tunnel worth of crops this year, likely due to herbicide carryover in manure that he added to his soil.
Now is the time many of us are applying manure to our fields. Before sourcing manure or mulch, you may want to check out a North Carolina Extension publication that covers the topic, called:
"Herbicide Carryover in Hay, Manure, Compost and Grass Clippings"
The article contains a list of herbicides that are applied to pasture/hay that may carryover in manure, compost and hay/straw mulch. It also suggests some basic precautions and questions to ask if purchasing hay or manure.
