HERE'S WHAT'S FRESH
Blue Door Farm will have a bunch of scrumptious vegetables and more elderberry blossoms. If I may, I'd like to briefly rave about elderberry blossom fritters, which I tried for the first time this week. Imagine a light, lacy funnel cake, infused with a floral, slightly sweet flavor. Think drizzled honey, golden crunchy sweetness and one awesome, very seasonal, treat. Yeah, it's that good. And it is super easy. I'll be bringing a modified recipe that I think is even better than the one from last week.
Back on the scrumptious veggie front: Garlic! Carrots! Cabbage! Broccoli! Onions! Broccolini! Kohlrabi! Chard! Kale! Baby fennel! ... Exclamation Points! Oh, and the last of the head lettuce for a few weeks at least. See you Saturday, Laura
RED RIDGE FARMS
We should have slicing and pickling cucumbers (let the season begin!!), broccoli, small green and yellow zucchini, purple and green cabbage, sugar peas, snow peas, and English, or shelling peas, turnips, beets, onions, garlic, baby carrots, potatoes, gooseberries (heading to the woods to go pick), kale, lettuce, dill and sweet pickles, relish, maybe strawberries, cut and potted herbs, rodent and rabbit repellent, and a few flower bouquets, if I still have daylight left! See you Saturday! Tomatoes next week??
WELLS FAMILY FARMS
KIM WELLS

MUROAK FARM
Hello from Muroak Farm. It has been a windy week but we are thankful for the cooler temps. This week we will have Some more great cabbage, garlic, small onions, romaine lettuce, kale, I think we will have some radishes ready and maybe a few kohlrabi. There is still some time to start blackberries and strawberries. I still have a few left. Last but not least we will try to have a few pints of mulberries. Mulberries make great syrup. They also go great in a home made ice cream. I haven't tried it yet but I have been told they make a great wine. Come by and see us and check out our handmade wooden clocks.
OISHII STUDIO SWEETS
Give Dad some special love this Father's Day with some "oishii" treats. This week Oishii Studio Sweets has brought back the sweet-heat of our Spicy Pecan Caramels. We also have Sea Salt Caramels, Rosemary Caramels and the mixed bags. This week we will have Scottish Shortbread, Lemon Shortbread and a new Espresso-Chocolate Chip Shortbread. And back for one more week we have delicious “Grand Marnier” Chocolate-Orange Brownies and perhaps a few surprises. Follow us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Oishii-Studio-Sweets/187431847972333

Farmers' Community Market at Brookside - SATURDAYS 8am-1pm - LAST GASP FOR THE FALL?
Well, this Saturday is bitter-sweet – our last market of the year. I have so enjoyed meeting and the getting to know all of you. I’ve grown particularly attached to our vendors and feel I will miss my new family, especially the children, greatly till next spring. What a wonderful atmosphere of friendship and community the market is, such a lively mix of diversity and personality.
We plan to keep in touch by email. We are very interested in hearing your input on how we can make the market better for you. We have heard your requests for more chef demos and will respond with as many as we possibly can.
I will be following up with newsletter info on how to find your favorite vendors and their wonderful organic treats a little further into the fall and some throughout the year.
Thank you again for making this such a great season and supporting the local, organic folks at the Farmers’ Community Market at Brookside.

from NUTRESSANT
Well, now that we all have some good moisturizing soap for the
winter, it's time to find some really good
lotion. Many of you are already using our BODY BUTTER. We also
have an IN-SHOWER MOISTURIZER
which is great when you're in a hurry. It is applied at the end of
the shower and then one last rinse and towel dry.
This is a very concentrated lotion and warms during the shower so it
just melts on the skin and stays
all day. One comment we hear often from Mothers is that their
children develop eczema during the winter
months. Well, I was surprised to learn that Lavender Essential Oil
is recommended for healing eczema. So
this weekend we will have small tubes of the BODY BUTTER, which is
made with shea butter, babassu (a
Brazilian palm plant used for healing minor cuts and scrapes) and
LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL.
As this is the last market day of 2010, we both want to give a hugh
THANK YOU to everyone who has
come by to meet us and use our products. If you need anymore
products during the coming winter
months, just email or call and we will make sure you get them. Until
2011...........stay healthy!

From Bread of Life
Hello Market Friends,
We are preparing for our last market with some sadness and readiness for a winter rest.
Our year has been good and full of changes around our house and at the Bakery. The Gluten Free bakery is going to keep us busy as we start our winter hours. Luke, Chris,Bethany and Amanda are all in collage and will keep plenty busy with that and adjusting to married life.
We will have our Pumpkin rolls this week and anyone who would like to order a whole roll can call the Bakery by Thursday 4pm. Our number is 1-816-669-1344.
Luke will have our egg burritos, quiches and breads available this weekend.Come by and stock up. Our breads freeze well for 2 mos or go to one of these local stores that carry our breads and Gluten Free goods: Cosentino's Brookside, Nature's Own, Natures Pantry and Hy Vee.
Thank you for your support this year and we look forward to seeing everyone next year.
Luke, Kathy and Chris
From Blue Door Farm:
Fruit! Greens! Baby turnips! Green tomatoes! Sweet Peppers! It is a last minute bonanza here at the field to celebrate the end of the season.
On the fruit front this week: Persimmons, Granny Smith apples from Joe Heide, "Blue Door Special" apples (they have really sweetened up with the cold) and Country Pears from both Joe and I. Winesaps may or may not be available - I'm still waiting to hear from Joe.
I will of course have more sweet italian peppers and japanese eggplant, and ... GREENS MADNESS with the following greens: - Lettuce mix - Romaine - Chinese Broccoli (mild and sweet!) - Broccoli Raab - Stirfry mix - Italian Dandelions - Mustard greens - Pac choi heads
I'll also have a small quantity of ripe tomatoes, kohlrabi and broccoli for the early birds.
Thanks to all of you for being part of the market this season. This year has been difficult for many of us and I'm truly appreciative of your support, good humor, fantastic taste in food and company. You make Saturday the best day of my week. Have a super winter!
Laura
From KCCUA’s Community Farm
Ohhhhhhhh, the last market. The dark secret we farmers have is that in August’s heat we start counting how many markets we have left and wonder how we will ever survive through them, then sometime in October we, being farmers we can’t help it, start dragging our heels not wanting the season of good food and good friends to end.
And here we are at the end. Sentimentality rules.
This week at market, I’m bringing Katherine and Daniel. It’ll be your chance to catch up with them and share winter plans. You might even get a hug. You’ll for sure go home with some tasty, cool weather-flavored produce. The snowy white turnips are delicious (I’ve eaten two while composing this email), the carrots and beets are back. Radishes are pretty tasty, too. French filet beans, oh my. Eggplant, sweet peppers and hot ones, too. Arugula, bok choi, Funky Fresh, kale and Swiss chard bunches. Get you salad mix that is finished off with a nasturtium bloom or two. We’ll have sweet potatoes and winter squash. Cheery cherry tomatoes. Basil, lemongrass and many other fresh herbs.
We’ll be looking for you. We thank you so much for making the Brookside Market a must each Saturday.
Thank you for supporting us so we can support growing food in this town we gladly call home.
Alicia
Remember, just because you don't see a vendor on the newsletter doesn't mean they won't be there. Contact me if you have any questions!
