The growers at the Westport Plaza Farmers' Market do much more than just produce food.  They develop their land in the best sense of the phrase.  Those who raise animals let them roam.  The cows eat the grass and herbs.  The chickens eat seeds and insects.  The vegetable growers use the nutrients from manure to help produce hearty plants.  Extra plant material is recycled as compost and turned back into the soil.  Though it is hard work to maintain a thriving farm or garden, this mimics the struggle all other living things go through to survive. These farmers are deeply embedded in their ecosystem and they welcome you to be a part of it as well. Occupy the Farmers' Market

There is no better way to protest the greedy grip of a few oligarchs over our livelihood, than to come on down to your local market for food grown without pesticides, destructive fertilizers or genetic modification.  When you support our farmers and artisans, you are declaring your freedom to live well for a better world.   This will be the last offical day at the Westport Plaza Market for the 2011 growing season.  Your purchases will provide the fuel to produce more sustainable food next season.  Plus, we'd all love to see you one more time before the long wait until springtime!    

         
A ton of good food will be working its way from the fields, including tomatoes, a wealth of greens, root veggies, potatoes, herbs, squash, beans, eggs, fresh baked goods, jams, and the return of grass fed beef!

Taste the KC (agri)Culture



Milling around in the rain with thousands of sightseers this weekend past the new performing arts semispheres, and 18broadway sustainability education site, taking in the street art of the crossroads and the good company of family, I remembered how wonderful KC can be.  This city has been and continues to be home to innovators in the arts, unique traditions and a spectacular agriculture.  Your time to celebrate this seasons fruits of the latter is dwindling as the daylight hours wane.  Come out this week to appreciate the environs we call home.
