Dearest Connoisseurs of Conscious Cuisine -
The FOOD REVOLUTION will not be televised.....nor will it be hybridized. Experience it "in the flesh" this Friday at the BADSEED FARMERS' MARKET SEASON OPENING!!!!!
I say it every year, as the spring market season explodes:
FARMERS ARE LIKE ROCK STARS......(or at least they should be worshipped as such!!) After all, what the heck does Bon Jovi or Billy Idol really "bring to the table" when it's all said and done. Bad to mediocre music and obnoxious hairdos?? Farmers FEED YOU and nourish your very bodies and souls with the sustenance of the earth!!! We cultivate life and dirt-filled flavor from the field to your fork. It aint' glamorous, it aint' sexy, it aint' easy. BUT it is absolutely NECESSARY and damn!...it sure tastes good. Besides, I guarantee you that Farmer Brooke (yours truly) has just as bad tattoos & hairdos as those wayward "rock stars". I probably even smell worse!
So there you have it folks.
Worship your farmer. Let us feed you and your families. It's our lot in life and we live to serve.
Now, onto the
REVOLUTION:
The Food Revolution cannot be found in your local supermarket. For crying out loud,
actual farmers don't
grow the "food" found on those fluorescent lit aisles! Agribusiness and factory farms produce that (less than nutritious) "filler" at the expense of our precious environment and our personal health. You wanna change the world and make it a better place?? You can do it "one bite at a time" by directly supporting local-organic growers at area Farmers' Markets. Yeah, yeah, yeah.....politics & ethics are no fun, I know! But look at it this way: it TASTES BETTER! Quality of life and the "fullness of sensuality" is growing in a field near you.
The
REVOLUTION continued:
I have a very important announcement! Local-Organic Food is no longer just for rich people!! That's right, you can be "dirt poor" (just like me) and still afford to buy your family ethically-produced foods thanks to the
Beans & Greens Program funded by the Menorah Legacy Foundation! Beans & Greens will
DOUBLE YOUR FOOD STAMP DOLLARS at participating Farmers Markets. BADSEED is one of those markets!! Come on down and double those EBT dollars. We've got veggies, eggs, meats, breads, cheeses, flour, honey, and more. This is "walmart one stop shopping" for the local-organic eater! Dig in and spread the dirt!!!
SEXY VEGGIE OF THE WEEK
For those of you who are new to the "BADSEED E-mail List", Sexy Veggie of the Week is a signature section of our weekly market e-mails. This is the part where Farmer Brooke selects a runner-up and grand-prize-winning vegetable from her field that exhibits "sheer sexiness" and divine decadence. Lush and graphic photos of the chosen veggies are attached, and their earthly bodies can be enjoyed "in the flesh" at that Friday's market!
Sexy Veggie of the Week was born out of a "shocking realization" I had about myself last spring. To my horror, I discovered that I was a bona fide PERVERT!...and not just any kind of pervert - a "veggie pervert". I couldn't walk through my field without being hopelessly distracted and seduced by the swaying tops of my voluptuous beets or the bodacious curves of a bell pepper. I had to stop in my tracks, kneel down, admire and caress these heavenly fruits. In an attempt to diffuse my shame, I created Sexy Veggie of the Week as a way of cultivating "followers" and fellow-perverts.
So, without further ado, let the perversion begin:This week's Runner-Up is RED-HOT, radiant, and racy. She is none other than "Red Velvet Lover's Gourmet Lettuce Mix".

This red-hot combo of succulent ruby lettuces will blow your mind with flavor and visual pizazz. Salad has never been so sexy. Tantalize your taste buds with this mad mix of luscious leaves, herbs, and edible calendula blossoms. Quantities are limited. Come early for this one!!....(and impress the one you LOVE with the sexiest all-red salad known to mankind).
This week's Grand-Prize-Winner is "PURPLE HAZE Spicy MUSTARD MADNESS".
This pungent, undeniably PURPLE mix of gourmet asian greens (or shall I say "purples") includes baby Purple Pac Choi, Osaka Purple Mustards, and Japanese Red Mustards. This flavor-packed combo can be eaten as a deep purple salad mix or lightly sauteed in your favorite "stir-fry". I suggest eating these gorgeous gals raw due to the fact that this is is the first cutting of the season and the nuances of flavor and spice will make your head spin with delight. This feeling can only be described as "purple haze".
Photos are attached. You know the drill - print them out, blow them up, and plaster them all over the men's room!

OKAY, OKAY.....enough already! We gotta move on to the most important part of this e-mail: our fabulous list of farmers and this week's organic offerings!
