  • HB 209 hides behind the majority of Missouri's independent family farms to protect Smithfield Foods (PSF) and a very small minority of industrial livestock operations.
  • HB 209 limits the constitutional rights of family farmers and rural landowners from protecting their property through the court system from the negative impacts of industrial livestock operations.
  • Similar to the misuse of eminent domain, HB 209 represents a "taking" or "condemnation" of one's personal property without just compensation, and creates a disincentive for factory farms to clean up their act and become good neighbors to farmers and rural families who have oftentimes lived on their land for generations.
  • HB 209 is clearly a CAFO protection bill that takes away the property rights of thousands of independently owned and operated family farms and rural landowners across the state.
  • Corporate agri-business and their lobbyists convinced some legislators to protect a small minority of corporate industrial livestock operations at the expense of Missouri landowners and family farmers and their constitutional right to protect their property. This is just plain wrong and cannot stand!
  • Support Family Farmers, Landowners and Property Rights--VETO HB 209!
