This year, several of the KCCSAC’s member farms will be hosting farm tours which will be open to the public! Now, we encourage all of our member farms to hold at least one event at the farm for their CSA members, in order to enhance the relationship among the farmer and his/her CSA members. It’s all about building community!
What makes these KCCSAC-sponsored farm tours different is that they’re open to, and meant for, both the general public and fellow CSA farmers. Each visit will begin with a guided tour of the farm, where the farmer will explain how his/her farm works and how CSA fits into the operation. This will help give everyone a better understanding of the breadth and depth of CSA farming, and how different farmers manage it uniquely.
After the tour, we will break bread together with a potluck picnic, taking a moment to relax alongside fellow local-food lovers — eaters and farmers alike — and enjoy the scenery of the farm. In order to make these farm visits as sustainable as possible, we request that attendees please provide their own reusable plateware and cutlery, and bring something to sit upon during the picnic.
Families with children are welcome to attend these farm visits; teaching kids where their food originates and how it makes its way onto their plates is the best way (aside from growing it themselves!) to get them to eat their veggies. We simply ask that parents/guardians always keep an eye on their children, as there is plenty of opportunity for mischief on working farms.
There is no charge for attending the CSA Farm Tours this year; however, donations are always welcome.
All of the CSA Farm Tours begin at 4:30 p.m.
Please RSVP to csac.kc@gmail.com by the dates noted for each Tour you plan to attend.
