Monday, September 14th -- 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Growing fruit without synthetic inputs is challenging in our area, but the demand for locally grown fruit is high. All are welcome to join us for a presentation on options for sustainable fruit production, followed by a farm tour.
4:00 – 5:30 Sustainable Fruit Production Pat Byers, Regional Horticulture Specialist with University of Missouri Extension, will present information on growing practices, pest and disease control and variety selection appropriate for low input fruit production.
5:30 - 5:45 Drive to and reconvene at the farm.
5:45 - 7:00 Farm tour, Prairie Birthday Farm On 15 acres outside of Kearney, MO Linda Hezel and Richard Moore use permaculture techniques to grow a variety of native and specialty fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers.
Join us for a tour and information about their farm, which includes honey bees, chickens, ducks and an area of reconstructed prairie.

Directions to Kearney Commercial Bank: From 1-35 N, take MO 92 (Exit 26 - Kearney/Excelsior Springs).
Turn west at end of exit onto MO 92/W. Sixth St. Go approx. 0.4 mile, to Kearney Commercial Bank, on the right, at 950 W. 92 Hwy. Directions to farm will be provided at workshop.
