Every year when I introduce my all-star cast of "gregarious growers" I say the same thing: Farmers are like Rock Stars. They feed you for crying out loud! What is more important than that?? I spent my early 20's traveling all over the world idolizing farmers from various food cultures. I dug up their potatoes, I harvested their beans, I braided their shallots, and I desperately sought to understand the wisdom that came from their dirt. I told myself that when I grew up I too would be a sower of seeds, a steward of the land, and a mother to the good earth. I told myself that one day, I too, would be a farmer. So here I am: dirt-stained and sunburnt. And here you are: tummy rumbling. The only thing left to do is to FEED YOU! How's this for the menu:

BADSEED Farm, Brooke Salvaggio & Daniel Heryer (South KC)
Yeah, yeah, know me - a towering 5'1" complete with bad tattoos and a loud mouth. Then there is my better half, Dan (smarter, cuter, well-spoken, etc.). But despite his charm, I still grow a better eggplant (so take your pick). We grow wicked-tasty heirloom/organic vegetables at 95th and Stateline Rd. But not for long!!! After this season we will be transitioning to a 13 acre site on KC's East side. We will plant out an orchard, a vineyard, and a diversified edible oasis. Stay tuned.
This week we've got:
*Heirloom Transplants for your organic garden (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, herbs, flowers, and more)
*Sex in A Bowl (badseed's signature SALAD MIX with chocolate mint, herbs, and chive blossoms)

Herb"N"Gardener, Lew Edminster (Westside, KCMO)
OOOH Baby, you gotta love Lew - bibs and all. This farmer curses like a sailor, but makes up for it with the meanest organic greens in town. His idyllic urban farm sits at the corner of 17th and Belleview. He is a neighborhood icon and his veggies are all the rage.
This week Lew's got:
*Transplants including heirloom tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, flowers, and rosemary in 1 gallon pots!!
*Arugula, Arugula, and more Arugula
*Gourmet Salad Mixes
*Chives, Sorrel, Green Garlic.....
*Kale & Chard !!

Platte Prairie Farms, Steve Mann (North KC)
Steve Mann is the man! This charming fellow not only grows on his own 2 acre plot in the northland, but he grows in other people's backyards all around the city. What an idea and what a dude. Want your backyard farmed?? to Steve.
This week Steve's got:
*Arugula (yeah that's right, more arugula)
*Bamboo Shoots
*Black Raspberry Plants, Tomato Plants, & Bamboo Tomato Trellises (heck yeah!)

PJ's Mushroom Farm, Paul & Judy Miller (Warrensburg, MO)
Paul and Judy are the bomb, and they cultivate some succulent and divine Oyster & Shitake Mushrooms on their lovely farmstead. In addition to the "shrooms", they've got some super happy hens who are eager to provide you with farm-fresh eggs each week. Lets hear it for the fungi!!.....and give those laying hens a hand.
This week P & J will have:
*A whole lotta' Shitake Mushrooms
*A limited amount of Oyster (come early)
*Farm-Fresh Eggs
*Cornish Hens
*Hand-made crafts (compliments of Judy) from recycled materials

Parker Farms, Tom and Paula Parker (Richmond, MO)
All you "flesh-eaters" listen up: We are so excited to welcome the Parkers to our lovely market this season! They are excellent people and righteous farmers. They raise all natural meats using truly sustainable and humane methods.
This week the Parkers will have:
*A variety of 100% grassfed beef and all natural pork including pork chops, country breakfast sausage, pork bratwurst, pre-cooked franks, T-Bones, Rib steaks, KC strip steaks, stew meat, and ground beef patties.
*Homemade soy based candles and gourd birdhouses (compliments of their lovely girls who grew the gourds on the farm!!)

Bread Of Life Bakery, The Crowther Family (Stewartsville, MO)
The Crowthers are absolutely the most excellent people you will ever meet. They don't make em' like that anymore folks! And further more these excellent people specialize in a wide variety of breads and baked delights made exclusively with LOCALLY-GROWN 100% ORGANIC FRESH GROUND WHEAT!!
This week B.O.L. will have
*sandwich breads

*specialty treats (vegan items as well)

Puddin' Head Coffee, Harry Lee, (Raytown, MO)
Boy can this man roast a bean!!! Harry is my all time favorite "micro-roaster". He uses certified organic, fair-trade beans and roasts them in small batches to absolute perfection. Try the Ethiopian - it will blow your mind.......dark and devastaing in all the right ways. Drink up!
This week Harry will have his usual selection of roasted beans, as well as coffee by the cup for you more sassy shoppers. (You are always welcome to sneak into my kitchen and grab a mug!!)

....and if coffee aint your thing, how about a WHEAT GRASS SHOT from the lovely Angela Hoffman, former owner of Artemis Tea Shop in Weston, MO. All you health-foodies out there have been demanding the green stuff - and now we've got it. Angela will also have wheat grass available in trays for those of you who like to get groovy and juice it up at home!! As local produce becomes available, Angela will have smoothies and other healthful beverages to boot.

Calling all bakers & pasta makers!!! This stuff will blow your mind. This is by far the finest quality local/organic flour I have ever had the supreme pleasure of dipping my hands into.
