Howdy Frigid Friends -
Man!!.....the blizzard is absolutely furious outside my window as I type this. Poor Farmer Dan is tramping through 13 acres of snow and ice to check on our animals. This kinda weather puts a farmer on edge. I worry about my sweet goats, chickens, and dogs, BUT I am incredibly thankful to have a roof over my own head.....not everybody does, ya know. I am reminded of that every time I exit 71 highway onto Swope Parkway in route to the urban farm. That off-ramp is a favorite spot for many of the neighborhood homeless. I'm not one to hand out much cash (farmers don't have any!!), but I always hand out leftover goodies from the market on my way home on Friday nights. Speaking of Friday nights - it will be "first" Friday in the Crossroads this week and The BADSEED Winter Farmers Market will be bangin' despite the nasty weather. We will have live music from our favorite folky friends of Checkered Past, and (depending on the damage from the blizzard) we should have a full array of Farmers armed with fantastic, free-range LOCAL FOODS! Remember - The best way to stay warm is to EAT UP.......and to "drink up" of course.....BYOB this Friday! Harry from Puddin' Head has got the best damn coffee in town. I suggest you SPIKE it. Have one for me.....my pregnant booty cannot indulge in the hard stuff.
Up-coming "LOCAL FOODIE" Event -
To kick off the 2011 CSA season, The Kansas City CSA Coalition is hosting its first-ever CSA OPEN HOUSE!
It's going to be a grand mixer, with all of our member farmers there! Come meet your CSA farmers and fellow CSA members, learn about Community Supported Agriculture, and sign up for your CSA share! There will be music, goodies, and a drawing for excellent prizes!
