Howdy Friends and Fellow Food Revolutionists -
This is Farmer Brooke.....you know....that goofy-looking little girl with bad tattoos and dirty finger nails??? Yeah, that's me. Well, me and my gang of gregarious growers will be sittin' pretty this Friday at the BADSEED Farmers Market from 4-9 PM. If we aint pretty enough for ya, you should see our vegetables!!! As usual we will have a mouth watering array of "earthly delights" grown with a whole lotta love. Ditch the supermarket and support your local farmers instead. If we don't grow it - you don't need to eat it!!!
Anyway, I gotta be honest with you....I am typing this e-mail half asleep. Life aint easy on these ole' bones. Perhaps I've dug one too many sweet potatoes. Due to my exhausted nature, I will spare you of any "agrarian rantings" or "romantic anecdotes" of my life as an urban farmer. Instead, I will give a few "shout-outs" and then cut right to the chase.
"Shout-Out" #1
I want to give a
GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all you crazy fools who came out to BADSEED's new land last Saturday and helped us dig some super duper DEEP holes. The holes are officially finished and now we can set the remaining posts and stretch fencing. Hallelujah!!! Once the fence and the gates are secure, we can transfer our glorious chickens and goats to their new home. YAY! I have been waiting for this day for a loooong time. Thanks for making it possible!!!! This is what community is all about! "Shout-Out" #2
Do you like rustic sourdough artisan bread???? Well I sure as hell do. Our good friend Lew of Herb"n"Gardener (you know, that fabulous ole' farmer with the "mean greens") is starting a really wonderful Rustic Bread CSA. He will be constructing a brick oven in his lovely garden at 17th and Belleview and firing it up to create artisan loaves from local/organic flour to be sold subscription style to 30 members. Wanna join?? Of course you do. Contact Lew Edmister at herbngardener@kc.rr.com or talk to him this Friday at the market. Yummy Yummy in your tummy.

From the Lips of Lew:
"i still can't get over the flavor of the french filet beans. damn, they're yummy. i'll have as many as are pickable, but they will go quickly. the arugula has regrown and there'll be a nice batch of it. how can you go wrong withmustard greens called, golden frill, ruby streaks and pizzo. these aren't the hot and bitey mustards, but just enough spice to be delectable. my fall patch of russian kale needs to be thinned, so i'll have a few bunches of young thinnings along with a good mess of curly starbor.. this could be the last week for smoked anaheim peppers, but that depends on frost potential."
