Kansas City Community Gardens has been receiving funding from the City of KCMO for more than 25 years. We just found out that the city staff has not recommended to give us funding for the coming year. Much of our funding comes from private sources but the funding from the city is very important and it enables us to provide garden tilling for many people and also to support group gardens and community gardens all around the city.
The City Council will have the final decision on our funding and you can help us by letting them know that you support community gardening in Kansas City.
Please consider coming with us to City Hall to the hearing to show support for the community gardens. The hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 3rd. We will be meeting here at the office at 10:30 a.m. and leaving for City Hall at 11:00 a.m. Please call Earlene at 816-931-3877 to let her know that you can come. We will have rides available if needed.
Here’s two ways that can help (CALL or WRITE):
Please call or write your city council representatives and tell them in your own words that food gardens are very important to our city and that you think that Kansas City Community Gardens should receive full funding.
Your call or letter can be very simple and short. It does not need to be long or complicated.
On the back (bottom) of this letter you will find names, addresses, and phone numbers for city council representatives. (Call Earlene at our office if you have any questions.)
