Hello Brookside Market Friends, Come celebrate spring with our farmers, vendors and Earth Day educational events this Saturday, April 17th! We are looking forward to seeing you, catching up and sharing our healthy treats!

The market opens ~ 8am till 1pm

Join us and our vendors learning about:

  • 9 am - Squirmy Wormy Composting - Powell Gardens Representative
  • 10 am - Kids, look for the Stone Lion butterflies to flutter
  • 11 am - Rain Barrel Demonstration - ReStore South Kansas City
    • Make your trip to the market a green one (bike, walk, car pool, metro, etc.)
      and be registered free to win a rain barrel, courtesy of Bridging the Gap.
      And, pick up information from MARC about water conservation.

Now, for the really good stuff our vendors will be featuring:

From Bear Creek Farms ~ Wow, that was a short winter! Can it possibly be time for spring markets again? YES!!! And we are ready to go with tons of herb, fruit, garden vegetable and heirloom tomato transplants for your garden! The greenhouses are overflowing and we are ready! With the economic worries of the world what better time to grow some of your own food - so till up that yard, add some good compost, plant some yummy vegetables and herbs, harvest the freshest most local food possible, and eat! Can it possibly get better than that! And for those of you short on yard space we'll have the perfect heirloom tomato plants for containers and hanging baskets.

Green Dirt Farm will be bringing all flavors of our Fresh cheese:

Plain,
Nettle, Confetti (garlic and onion), Firecracker (Rosemary) and Lovage.

We will also have lamb cuts.

Wells Family Farms will be offering goodies from their 632 Acres of Certified Organic Farm land, including berries, nuts and our delicious 100% Grass Fed Beef. We are Certified Humane with Animal Welfare Approved, and are open to anyone who would like to come and tour our farm. We offer our individual cuts of beef in Cryovac packaging which allows long term storage. We also, sell Whole, Half, Quarter and wholesale beef.

Other great products from our farm include:

Certified Organic, Food Grade Red Clover/Burdock Seeds,
Soybeans, dried
Bug Repellant, our own formula, and yes it really works!
Horse or Cow Leavins', aged manure for all your growing needs.


From Blue Door Farm: Woohoo! Spring is here! Time to eat, plant and be merry. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. The winter was snowy, but productive, as I have installed a deer fence at my field. I'm looking forward to a more productive season than ever.


For the first market I will be bringing a bunch of vegetable transplants to start your home gardens off, including a variety of heirloom tomatoes, herbs, sweet and hot pepper plants as well as broccoli, cabbage and chard. I'll also be bringing plenty of beautiful nasturtium plants which are just beginning to bloom, bachelors button plants, cheerful marigolds and some native, perennial starts including plains coreopsis (yes, this one really is perennial), black-eyed Susan and bee balm.

My high-tunnel has been good to me again this year, so I'll also have some vegetables available, including gorgeous, white stemmed pac choi that is perfect for a quick spring stir fry. Also available: garlic chives, parsley, and limited quantities of swiss chard, "pink beauty" radishes, spinach, lettuce mix and sorrel. Happy Spring! – Laura


The farmers from the Kansas City Community Farm and KCCUA are so excited to be back at the market this year! Thanks to the nice warm weather this spring we will be harvesting loads of fresh from down the road, certified organic veggies that include Swiss chard, kale bunches, bok choy, Chinese cabbage, spinach, lettuce mix and salad mix, microgreens, head lettuce, mustard greens, collard greens, braising mix, radishes, cucumbers, scallions, carrots, beets turnips and fresh herbs.

We'll also bring our famous green shelf o'transplants and hundreds of tomato transplants ready for your garden. We're looking forward to seeing the faces we've been missing all winter and meeting some new friends of local food. See you at the market!


From Bread of Life Bakery: We have had a very cold and white winter up north and we are thankful for the mild days of spring. This winter was a time for change for our family, Amanda our oldest got engaged to Andrew in December. March was busy with Chris and Bethany's wedding and Luke got engaged to Mandi. Luke will be getting married May 8th and still plans to be at market that day!

We are preparing to have our breads and sweets to have with Puddin’ Head coffee. Come by our booth and congratulate Luke. Chris will be gone this week so Josiah will help him this week

From Kay at The Curious Canine: Beefy "Biscotti", Liver Chips, Bison Bites........YUM! We want to welcome you to the Brookside Market this year, and your Canine friend. We'll be there with delicious dog treats. Look for us at The Curious Canine. And, thanks for coming!

From Puddin’ Head Coffee: Ms. Jewel and I will be offering my signature “Rainforest Blend” the hearty dark roast for sampling and sale as well as Peruvian ‘Ayachuco’ medium roast, Ethiopia ‘Sidamo’ the fruity medium roast followed by the flavorful Peruvian ‘Ignacio Grande’ decaf dark roast. These whole bean coffees are all organic, fair trade and/or Rainforest Alliance certified coffees.

From Kim Tuccillo at Roaring River Bread: Welcome all! We will be back this season with our hand-made, hand formed, hearth baked, individual and small batch breads, cookies, granolas and other goofy snacks! Look for your popular favorites including sourdough and harvest 7 grain.

Benedict Builders will be back with their Salad bar grass-fed beef and different cuts of pork, pastured eggs, and a variety of new raw cows’ milk artisanal cheeses.

Also, Border Star Montessori School could use our help repairing their garden boxes, weeding, cleaning up and planting on our opening day.
