Sunshine and Rain make happy farmers and a rainbow of veggies and good local cheeses & meats...yum, yum, yum!
Good things happening this weekend in the market:
9 am: Yoga on the front lawn!!!! Bring your mat and maybe an extra towel for cushion. We start at 9 am. This is yoga for everyone - beginners, children, young, old, big and small! And, we'll add a little Pilates for the core.
10 am: Ooey Gooey Worm Composting Demo - Molly Gosnell from Border Star Montessori PTA will be doing composting bin demonstration at "Children's Corner"! If you have any extra shredded paper, we could use some. She'll also be there from 9 to noon to answer questions about worm composting and show you the bin.
Here are the treats that await you from our vendors:
Hi there, friends - Thank you everyone for joining us at the First Annual Crestwood Dog Show last Saturday. It was a Perfect day. It was wonderful to see so many of you. The Crestwood merchants are to be commended for their hospitality. They thought of everything. We'll look forward to the event again next year. This week at the Brookside market we will be offering our all meat treats. Come by to see us and bring your dog. We'd love to see him. You'll want to stock up on treats and indulge your best friend on this holiday weekend.
See you Saturday. Bob & Kay
Green Dirt Farm will be at the market with our usual assortment of
cheeses, including our new Feta, our Dirt Lover, Woolly Rind, and Wee
Woolly, and all of our flavors of Fresh. In one more week we will have
lamb cuts, too. Hope we'll see you there!
Red Ridge Farms
It's national adopt a toad week! And to help your new family member settle in, make sure you pick up one of our hypertufa Toad Abodes. Spacious, cool and moist, every toad in the neighborhood will be jealous. Just think of all the extra bugs your well-rested, new-found, amphibian friend will munch in appreciation! Just in case you aren't shopping for a new toad house, we are also bringing some great veggies, transplants, annuals and herb combo pots, and beautiful flower bouquets for Memorial weekend. See you at the Market! Ami, Jim, Anna & Andrew
Bear Creek Farms
Ok, now it is summer! And things are really growing - I think the tomato plants are gowing 6 inches a day! Finally! We, on the other hand, are having trouble transitioning from 60 degrees to 90!
This week at market we will have broccoli, beautiful bok choi, lettuce for those cool summer salads, radishes, snow peas, and whatever else is out there.
We'll bring some more plants for those of you still planting your gardens. We have some very cool tomato plants made just for hanging baskets or pots on your deck or patio. They are heirlooms - full of flavor - but just the right size for those with no real garden space or who are fighting the squirrels of KC.
Looks like it'll be another gorgeous Saturday. Hope to see you at market!

Hello from KCCUA’s Community Farm!
It’s been a great week seeing farmers with worn-out eyes, mulch and grease-stained clothes, blistered-hands, sunburned backs and the widest of grins yet this season. With the hot, dry days it feels like we’ve really gotten some work done. It feels good to eat when you are really hungry and sleep when you’re really tired. It all feels good.
This week we’ll harvest and bring to the market…
SUMMER SQUASH (Zephyr is the variety), beautiful green onions, leeks, scallions, fennel, spinach, salad mix, lettuce mix, head lettuce, microgreens, pea shoots, arugula, Chinese cabbage, Chinese broccoli, broccoli raab, BROCCOLI, Swiss chard, kale bunches, collard bunches, braising mix, cucumbers, kohlrabi, turnips, beets, carrots, radishes and fresh cut herbs.
We’re bringing the transplants for a few more weeks only, so get what you need and want for your own garden now.
Stop by and say hello to Bobby Wright…one of our summer apprentices who farms his own garden on the east side of KCMO.
See you Saturday!
Laura from Blue Door Farms, The Bendict Builder Family, the Gunther Family, The Kim's with Meat and Bread, Luke and the gang from Bread of Life, and Jim, Alex and Aidian from Wood Mood Farms will all be there with their smiles and regular offerings.
And now, a word from our Season Sponsor (te he he):
Go green this Memorial Day weekend! Rent a Vespa from Vespa Crossroads for as low as $29/Day, and enjoy the holiday weekend in a new, greener way. The spring rains have caused our roses and gardens to bloom furiously, and you can truly enjoy the sights and scents of Kansas City from a scooter as you make your fun rounds through town this weekend. We're proud to be part of the Farmers Community Market at Brookside this year - introducing you to greener ways to get around KC. Did you know a Vespa gets upwards of 80 miles per gallon? Spend your dollars on locally-grown arugula instead of high priced gasoline! We look forward to meeting you at the market - Gail & John Redmond. p.s. my raspberry bushes are FULL this spring, and the Missouri fig I bought at the market two weeks ago is thriving! I see locally-grown honey, yummy local goat cheese, and figs from my own backyard in my future.
...and remember to Buy Organic, Buy Local, By Brookside! Open Saturdays through October from 8 am to 1 pm at 63rd and Wornall, in the heart of Brookside!
The Farmers' Community Market at Brookside is Dedicated to Creating a Unique Partnership between the Community and Farmers who provide High Quality, Local and Organic Products in an atmosphere that is mutually beneficial, wholesome and fun.The Market also helps to support the Border Star PTA.
