Hello "Conscious Consumers" of
Local Organic Flavor -

SUNSHINE, GLORIOUS SUNSHINE!!! Get ready to reap the benefits of this excellent weather with a sun-soaked bounty of "earthly delights"

this Friday from 4-8 PM
@ the
BADSEED Farmers Market

This last little bit of sun has given those cold and uninspired veggies sleeping in the field a wake up call! Suddenly everything is growing and greening up for one last party in your mouth before the season for field produce officially ends. SO GET IT WHILE IT'S HOT!

Speaking of what's HOT - our chickens are laying like crazy this past week and farm fresh eggs have been the number one item on the menu in the BADSEED household. I have been going a little overboard with too many omelets, herbed fritatas, fresh egg pastas, quiches, and (as an expression of my more festive side) FRESH EGGNOG!!! Holy cow! Talk about decadent. This stuff will blow your mind - made with farm fresh brown eggs, Shatto Milk & Cream, and fresh ground spices - this stuff makes the Holidays worth having.
Recipes for Eggnog and other festive, fall dishes are included at the end of this e-mail!

So, since it will be "first" Friday in the Crossroads, the market will be loaded up with Vendors and an awesome array of goodies, including some brand new vendors with some mouth-watering items:

1) Paul & Judy Miller with OYSTER & SHITAKE MUSHROOMS from Warrensburg,MO
(in stir-fry's, soups, sauces, and even scrambled eggs, a little bit of "fungi" can really turn a meal into something special)

2) John Wilhelm with locally foraged WALNUTS & PECANS from Grandview,MO
(Go nuts!! No fall menu is complete with out em'. Local Pecan Pie anyone???)

3) Stan & Carmen Biggs with Farm-Fresh PRODUCE from Bigg Blue Farm in Mosby,MO
(home-grown goodness from the rich-black earth of the heartland. Eat Up!)

Traditional Eggnog
For the most orgasmic EGGNOG imaginable be sure to use local and fresh ingredients that have not been tainted with any chemicals or industrial funk! You will taste a difference. The following recipe is a simple one. I tripled should do the same!

Pumpkin Soup
This recipe comes from the lovely Emily Akins - a die-hard "local foodie" and a girl who has the guilty habit of buying the largest pumpkin at the market! (my kinda gal) She keeps a wonderful blog and features recipes using local foods. Here is a link to her Pumpkin Soup experience using our Japanese Pink Banana Squash:

Arugula Pesto
When the weather turns cold and Basil is no longer an option, Arugula is a peppery and perfectsubstitute. Arugula will be in season until we get a harsh freeze, so take advantage of it now.
