Brookside Farmers' Market - FOOD * FLAVOR * FUN - July 30, 2011

Good news, faithful market friends!  We have cooler weather in store for this weekend.  Mark and John will be back with their sweet tunes.  Come and give our weathered, frazzled, lovely, hard-working farmers a smile and a lift.  Thank you so much for continuing to support local food and the local economy!

Red Ridge Farms
More sweet corn, tomatoes, blackberries, eggplant, squashes of all shapes and sizes- including spaghetti and butternut, a very few green beans, potatoes, onions, cucumbers, maybe a few more cantaloupe, freshly made pickles, garlic, herbs, and our smiling faces...and...oh yes...um... pumpkins?! See you Saturday.

Bear Creek Farms

Your frazzeled, crispy farmers will be at market Saturday with tomatoes - loads and loads of tomatoes in every size, shape and color! We'll also have eggplant, peppers, onions and garlic, tomatoes, kale and chard, watermelons, tomatoes, basil, cabbage, tomatoes, potatoes, zucchini, tomatoes, and more.
And, in case I failed to mention it - we'll have LOTS of TOMAtOES!!!
It's hard to believe that our last real rain was May 28th! What a summer! Stay cool and see you Saturday - with TOMATOES!

MUROAK FARMThe hot dry weather has slowed things down some but we still have a lot of heirloom tomatoes, garlic, kale and kohlrabi. We will also have okra, beans ( kentucky wonder and long beans), basil, savory, dill, cilantro, purple basil, sweet basil plants, savory plants, blackberry plants, jalapeno peppers and a few supper sweet huckleberries. See you at the market.

NUTRESSANT

We continue to survive the heat so we'll be here with all our organic
body products. Got a new Hair Conditioner that we love........John
and Sandy

From the Gibbs Road Community Farm and Cultivate Kansas City (formally KCCUA)

Though the heat, we’ll be harvesting all the favorite summer crops. Eggplant, summer squash, sweet and hot peppers, tomatoes! We’ll also bring lots of potatoes, garlic, scallions, onions, basil, beets, carrots, tomatillos, cucumbers, herbs, sweet potato greens, green beans and purslane. In spite of the 100 plus day temps we’ll be able to harvest and share some microgreens, arugula and limited amounts of Funky Fresh, Swiss chard and kale. Those leafies just don’t like this heat. But well, who does? Come early to market to beat the heat and get the best selections!
See you Saturday.

Stony Crest Urban Farm
Rodger Kube & Diane Hershberger
We will have colorful grape & cherry tomato "Snack Baskets", many varieties of full-size tomatoes, yellow & other summer squash, Jalapeno, Anaheim & Italian Roasting Peppers, cut tarragon & lime basil and possibly green onions, beans, green peppers & more! I will be down with beef, de and bug repellant, sorry have no imagination for my words today! Later, Kim

Bread of Life Bakery

We are a smaller crew this week since Lili and Bryce had to go back home this week. We will miss their energy and help that they offer us.
I want to thank many of you for encouraging Bryce, Lili and Gabriel at market as they learn how to work for oneself, pay for ingredients and sell their own product. They get to earn some money and learn to save and think hard on what to do with the rest. Going to market is something they look forward to every year.
Chris and Josiah will be at market this week with our burritos, quiche, rolls, breads, cookies ( honey bee cookies will be there too) and our Gluten Free breads and baked goods.
Stay cool and see you Sat.
Josiah, Chris and Kathy
