WINTER FARMER’S MARKET CELEBRATES
NEW COMMUNITY SPIRIT OPEN HOUSE
Kansas City, MO --- October 2009 -- The Farmer’s Winter Market of Grand Court is excited to announce that a new network of small growers will participate in a Grand Opening Celebration in cooperation with non-profit organizations. The events will be held on November 7 and 14, from 10 am - 1 pm, inside of the Grand Court Retirement Center at 501 W. 107th Street in Kansas City, Missouri. Mapquest link
“With the addition of new farmers and vendors, the Farmer’s Winter Market of Grand Court is able to offer residents just south of Kansas City a larger variety of fresh produce, meats, dairy and desserts” states Steven Quarles, Assistant Manager of Grand Court Farmer’s Market and a multi-generation farmer.
Market Volunteer Janet Hoyer states, “It is refreshing to work with good people who have compassion for the less fortunate. Their unseen individual charity efforts go beyond talk into making real social differences. These include services such as food bank donations, teaching gardening methods to special needs students, revitalizing urban areas for community gardens, helping local homeless people, and facilitating animal adoptions. Supporting America’s small farmers is a good value and investment that nourishes the community.”
Non-profit organizations at the event will include Urban Growth KC, H3 (Houses, Hearts, Hands), PigHeads Animal Rescue and The Cooperation Institute.
Event farmers and vendors include: Schenker Farms, NV Ranch, ShroomHeads Organic Farm, The Organic Garden, Rambler’s Ranch, The Little Muddy Farm, Three Spoons of Sugar, Puddin’ Head Coffee and Wellness World Organics.
Speakers will give free demonstrations on gardening, cooking, and information about local agricultural products. Brief talks about individual organizations will be given. The event will include an Open House time for conversation and questions. Coffee from Puddin’ Heads will be available. Farmer musician Vernon Quarles will provide musical entertainment. A local noted Harpist will provide soft background music for the event.
The Farmer’s Market of Grand Court was founded by Market Manager Tena Bellovich in October 2007 in an effort to provide a forum for small local farmers to sell their goods.

(The KC Food Circle is listing this event on a provisional basis because many of the participating food producers are (or were) KCFC Member Growers. We are confident that the products provided at Grand Court will, for the most part, meet KC Food Circle standards.)
