Hello There oh so dedicated "Local Eaters",
The BADSEED's are back in town. Dan and I cannot wait to see your smiling face and roaring belly this Friday from 4-8 PM at your favorite FUNKY FRIDAY NIGHT FARMERS MARKET!!!
We have desperately missed you and our fellow-farmers these last couple weeks during our "vacation" in sunny California. I say "vacation" in quotes because it didn't turn out to be much of one. In a nut shell: We had appointments lined up with various urban farms between San Francisco and LA. We "rented" (more quotes) a reliable volvo from a friend of mine in SF. (I am the type of girl who would rather give my hard earned money to a good-hearted individual than a corporate rental company any day, so that is exactly what we did.) Turns out that the reliable volvo was not so reliable. The key freakishly stopped turning in the ignition at a rest stop in the middle of nowhere off Highway 1 between Big Sur and San Simeon. After being stranded for 24 hours with no cell service and a lot of semi-successful hitchhiking in the rain, we finally got the car towed to the nearest Volvo dealership. OOuch!! As you can imagine it was an offensive amount of money to repair the foreign ignition locks and tumblers (whatever the hell those are) and 2 days later we were back on the rode......only this time we were broke and out of time to re-schedule the missed appointments with friendly farmers.
You heard it here first: FARMERS SHOULD NEVER TAKE VACATIONS!!! We need to stick to what we can rely on: our very own dirt! (Besides, us farmers cannot really afford to take a vacation anyway!!!) OK OK, I am not being bitter, really. I am laughing as I type this. Just don't ask me how my "vacation" was come Friday. Instead, buy loads of local/organic goodness from my beloved fellow-farmers. That way they too can afford a well-deserved vacation (even though I do not advise it!!!).
Enough about me. I'm over it. What I cannot get over is -
